Some exaggerate the capabilities of these devices, some downplay them. But myths about 3D printers exist and it’s up to us to dispel or confirm them. So, what do ordinary people think about 3D printers?
It’s a complicated device
On the one hand, you can’t argue with that. The device is indeed not simple, but the developers take care to maximize the ease of operation of 3D printers. Desktop devices are aimed at comfortable and easy operation. For example, the project of the simplest 3D printer was considered on Kickstarter. Moreover, some models of printers you can assemble yourself. And if you do everything correctly – they will work quite well. That’s why it’s not as complicated as it seems.
Products do not require post-processing
This is perhaps the biggest misconception. No matter how much you want to, you can not just take and print. Objects must go through a minimum of post-processing, especially if they were printed with supports.
You can print in any color
Unfortunately, modern desktop 3D printers are not yet able to print full-color samples. There are models with several extruders, but the possible maximum is two or three colors. On industrial printers it is quite realistic to print products in full color. Nevertheless, developers are actively working to eliminate this limitation and are making significant progress. Relatively compact printers for full color printing already exist. It remains to wait for their mass market launch and price reduction.
This concludes the list of myths about 3D printing. We hope this article was informative. And if you know more myths and misconceptions about 3D printers and 3D printing that we haven’t touched on, write us an email and we will add them as well, if necessary!
